Friday April 6th
And just like that, our last full day on the ship. So many things to try that haven't been done. Must they to get on the surfing machine, the waterslides and the Abyss ride too.
Awake at 630 and downstairs reserving chairs by 745 on deck 15 near the end of the waterslides.
I snuck over to the Solarium for a quick bite to eat and look around then back to our seats to 'guard them' from having our towels removed by the security who were trying to tighten up the leaving of towels on chairs but no bodies for large portions of the day.
I managed to finish off the hook I was reading and was a bit disappointed with the ending but at least I managed to get a book done.
Krista and friends made an appearance at the crack of 10am and were disappointed with the chair location so we moved to the serenity of the Solarium.
We did a bit of visiting and since I missed breakfast, I decided to venture off and do the remaining things from my bucket list that I hadn't gotten around to trying yet.
I started off at the Abyss - the feay dry carpet 10 story slide. Both boys said it was slow but they were very wrong. 160 pounds flew down the thing in record time.
After seeing stars from breaking the sound barrier, I headed over to the FlowRider wave machine. I went to the side with kneeboarding as the surfing side
would have been very short lived and likely more pain inducing.
After a 30 minute wait it was finally my turn. I was positive that I was going to be able to master this as I was so good at kneeboarding behind a boat. WRONG! I was all over the place but after a minute was on my knees like a pro! Right up until I caught an edge and the board disappeared and I suddenly had to use every ounce of strength I had to keep my swimsuit from being aroud my ankles! People were cheering, people were averting eyes and waiting for the worst case scenario but miraculously they remained on! Phew! Extremely thankful no family or friends were present to record that one. Wow.
Time for lunch. Down to deck 3 for seats at a table of 12 next to the water. Wow. A served meal of multiple courses including some amazing Maple Pie for dessert.
Back up to the 15th deck by the waterslides for a few hours of last minute tanning or should I say burning. I should have probably put more sunscreen on as every 20 minutes someone could be overheard saying "Do I smell bacon?" Lol
The craziest thing about this location was that every 15-20 minutes, a large rider would create such a wave that it would blast over the top and subsequently send a cup or two of water onto me whilst I slept. This was actually quite refreshing and something I looked forward to to cool me off. Until 430pm that is. I was trying to decide when I should head up stairs for the afternoon and shower when a tidal wave launched over the side of the slide and almost completely washed me off the chair. I won't mention the size of the individual that emerged from the slide, but I had multiple inquire as to my health and overall safety until I rose to my feet. Time for a shower.
Into shorts and off to the Windjammer for appetizers including massive peel and eat shrimp and fresh steamed mussels. A wander around the ship for an hour picking up some last minute trinkets and such and off for supper in the main dining room on deck 3. Coconut shrimp, lamb, Turkey with all the fixings and creme brulee to round out a final nights supper.
We headed back to our room for a bit and to put all our luggage in the hall for pickup.
We took a peek out at the stars for the final time on this trip and were still amazed at the upside down big dipper. Pretty cool.
Krista and I then ventured off to the water show and diving entertainment for an hour. The music was awesi.e and the athletes were phenomenal. We headed back to our room for some tv and off to bed. Or so we thought....
Nicholas made his curfew before 1 but Jacob did not send after scouring the usual hangouts for 30 minutes we started to worry and filled out a missing persons report. After a SHIP WIDE ANNOUNCEMENT was made, mr genius comes wandering back from some rich girl's 2 floor suite at the front of the ship on deck 17. Prayers were answered as he was home safely but consequences galore await this young man in the morning.
